MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTIST & DIRECTOR

MAURICE LEONI-OSION

ABOUT
Maurice Leoni-Osion

MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTIST & DIRECTOR

Maurice Leoni-Osion is a Multidisciplinary Artist and Program Director based in Berlin, DE, and Richmond, VA. His multicultural approach to Hip-Hop, combined with a deep love for Sci-Fi Thrillers and Afrofuturism, informs his artistic practice that spans across various mediums: poetry, literature, sound art, music production, film, art programs, and immersive performances—driven by a desire to celebrate and preserve the powerful, untold stories that lie at the intersection of the eyemaginariums of his youth and ancient “tecknowledgey” of his ancestors.

Within the layered entendre of his music youniverse, Maurice sees Hip-Hop as a constant companion and presence likened to a kindred, extended family member, deeply intertwined with a sense of collective memory. His work is often rooted in research from an underground artchive discovered at a young age, stemming from his grandmother’s beloved record collection, which inspired a love for visual storytelling and ancestral lineage celebrated in album art and liner notes.

These formative experiences would cultivate an environment that fueled Maurice’s unconventional practice as an artist, performer, and director, empowering him to REvolve living narratives that connect the accounts of our experience to the past, present, and future.

THE HOME REMIXTAPE ARTCHIVES VOL 2: RICHMOND

The Home ReMixtape Artchive Mixtape Vol. 2. Richmond is a community-driven project that captures the narratives of Richmond and its neighboring communities. Through a series of workshops, discussions, and interviews, community members shared their unique stories, music, and perspectives on the concept of home.

This compilation explores what home means, where it is located, to whom it belongs, and how it defines us, creating an authentic artchive that celebrates the community's collective identity and creativity.

Additional songs, interviews, and stories will be added to the artchive throughout

The Home ReMixtape Artchive Vol.1: Berlin

THE HOME REMIXTAPE ARTCHIVES VOL 1: BERLIIN

The Home ReMixtape Artchive Vol 1: Berlin serves as the inaugural chapter of an upcoming global community library functioning as an outlet for creative expression in capturing the essence of a home—vol 1. Berlin arises from a series of workshops paying homage to the concept of home and community. The workshops incorporated various mediums to collaboratively create a community mixtape as an archival approach to preserving untold stories centered around the living home experience and traveled through five locations as part of Oyoun's Tiny House Oyounity Tour, becoming a nomadic destination point for community members to create together and become acquainted with lesser-known parts of Berlin, DE.
Participants investigated and shared their stories of home through environmental recordings, interviews, songs, poems, and music production, which were then combined into the mixtape.

The workshop series concluded with an exhibition at Oyoun Kultur NeuDenken on Thursday, November 16, 2023, where an old telephone booth was transformed into a studio vocal space where attendees could hear previous stories and contribute to the mixtape,
